SORRY FOR THE EMAIL

Care Less About Your Email

Folks, with the holiday weekend and official start of summer almost here, we’re going to talk about emails. Not this particular email, but emails in general. Today—right now—how many total unread emails do you have in your inbox(es)? What level of anxiety does that number cause you? If you’re like 99% of other people, it causes a lot of anxiety, and the WSJ has some tips for you: How To Care Less About Your Email.

The article describes not only how email can suck the productivity out of your entire day, but also how each email you successfully respond to generates new emails which require response in a never ending, anxiety-inducing vicious cycle of unproductivity. It’s no wonder that Gen Z, who missed out on the golden age of email, can’t stand the medium. The kids have a point here.

If you feel that your inbox exists solely to torment you, check out these tips to wrest some control back into your life, and read the story of a man who can only be described as a modern-day professional hero.

Reed Omary, a radiologist in Nashville, Tenn., logged into one of his work inboxes one day last winter, selected thousands of unread emails and, with the click of a mouse, removed them from his life.

“I just deleted the whole kit and caboodle,” he says with a shrug. “If they’re important, they’ll come back.”

What a legend.
