Signs of the Future, Past
Some of Our Favorite Sign Projects of 2014
We’ve been fortunate to work with many of our favorite brands over the years, and 2014 was no exception. Not only did we get to take on some challenging and exciting new projects, but we got to work with many of our favorite designers and architects. We were also honored to help some young, flourishing brands expand their message and their mark through great sign programs. See below for some of our favorite sign projects of 2014.
Methodist Dallas Medical Center
Methodist Dallas Medical Center added state-of-the-art emergency care facilities to their flagship hospital in Dallas and Harbinger was proud to help them brand the new building with a custom fabricated sign program.
The design firm focusEGD designed the signage that became a major accent to the facility’s architecture. The 11’-6” logo is inset into the decorative façade. Because this hospital operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year, it was imperative that lighting service calls did not interfere with the patients or emergency personnel. This was one of the reasons they required the new signage to feature long-lasting, energy-efficient LED lighting.
In addition to the façade signage, Harbinger also fabricated and installed monument signage and exterior wayfinding signage.
Mellow Mushroom Avondale
The Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers in North Florida are some of the nicest Mellow Mushroom restaurants in the world. Prior to this Avondale location, their Jacksonville Beach location set a high bar for architecture, design, branded interior and external signage.
Harbinger was excited to work with John Valentino, Wingard Creative and The Design Cooperative to design, fabricate and install an exterior sign program that captured the early 20th century aesthetic of this historic neighborhood, without sacrificing the fun modernity local Mellow Mushroom’s are famous for.
Fiesta Restaurant Group is one of the fastest growing fast-casual restaurant companies with their Cabana Grill and Pollo Tropical brands. We were honored to be invited to help them with their expansion by providing exterior sign systems that include architectural fabrication, monument signage and façade signage for the new Cabana Grill locations.
Gate Petroleum and Harbinger have worked together for decades. When Gate decided to update their store designs, they came to Harbinger for some new solutions for their pylon signs, façade signs, and exterior lighting. With our deep knowledge of their brand goals and the challenges we often face together with sign design, installation and maintenance, we were glad to help them create a unified sign program that matched their new contemporary aesthetics with a simplified, design-engineered pylon utilizing internal LED illumination and digital price displays. Learn more about how we addressed their needs and innovated their sign program in a recent case study we published here on our digital publication.
This sign program involved an architectural monument roadside sign and monument marks at each entrance, as well as several exterior directional and branding elements. It was among our most challenging and fun projects this year. It was also an important development for the Riverside neighborhood.
The brand tied Jacksonville’s railroad history into a concept that serves the metaphorical bridge that Brooklyn Station represents between the historic Riverside neighborhood and downtown Jacksonville. So the new retail center with a Fresh Market and new restaurants was an important piece of the placemaking strategy for the Brooklyn neighborhood of Riverside.
We love our convenience store and petroleum clients because we really get their business model and understand their challenges. We are so glad to welcome Stripes to our family of brands. This southwestern brand is one of the fastest growing convenience stores in the industry and we are absolutely in love with how fun their brand is in the space. We are happy to be providing their LED sign systems for façade and pylon signage.
Harbinger and the Jacksonville Jaguars have worked together since the NFL franchise first came to our hometown of Jacksonville. This year, with the new team and ownership, we weren’t certain our relationship would continue. But when the chips were down and the head coach needed some branded interiors for the team and for the fans, Harbinger came through. We fabricated and installed the signs they needed within 48 hours of their first game of the season. Read the whole story.
