Approaching the Built Environment on Campus
WHEN: Thursday January 22nd, 4-6pm
WHERE: UNF Student Union (Building 58 West, Room 3805)
WHAT: Panel Discussion with Zak Ovadia, Jorge Borrelli, & Glen Dasher
The Jacksonville chapter of SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Design) is hosting a panel at the University of North Florida with UNF’s Director of Campus Planning, Design & Construction, Zak Ovadia (AIA, MRAIC), and two of the architects involved in the school’s most recent facilities. The Student Union and the Student Wellness Complex are 2 of the most beautifully designed structures in North Florida and elevate the international perception of the university.
Placemaking for Students
Jacksonville architect Glen Dasher worked on the AIA (American Institute of Architects) award-winning Student Union and Jacksonville architect Jorge Borrelli worked on the breathtaking Student Wellness Complex. In this panel discussion, the administrator and the architects involved in the projects will discuss the process of placemaking on campus, the inspiration for the structures, and how the function of the facilities informed the design.
The Student Union
The UNF Student Union was built in 2009 and won multiple awards from the AIA Florida in 2012. Designed by Rink Design Partnership with architect Glen Dasher, the SU contains a convenience store, several restaurants, a game room, the UNF bookstore, an LGBT resource center, and an auditorium. It is also the location for the university’s student media outlets: The Spinnaker newspaper and Osprey Television and Radio.
Student Wellness Complex
Erected in 2012, this state-of-the-art wellness, fitness and sports learning facility offers UNF students, faculty and staff unlimited access to the largest, most comprehensive wellness center in northeast Florida. This remarkable building was designed by Borrelli + Partners, Inc. and PSA/Dewberry with architect Jorge Borrelli.
